Is the bulk density of glass wool bigger the better? - uetersen

The thickness of glass wool blanket is unchanged, the bulk density increases, and the sound absorption coefficient of low and middle frequency also increases. However, when the bulk density increases to a certain extent, the material becomes dense, the flow resistance is greater than the optimal flow resistance, and the sound absorption coefficient decreases. For centrifugal glass wool with a bulk density of 24Kg/m³ and a thickness of more than 50mm, the low frequency 125Hz is about 0.3, and the sound absorption coefficient of middle and high frequency (>500Hz) is close to 1.

When the thickness is unchanged and the bulk density increases, the low frequency sound absorption coefficient of centrifugal glass wool will also improve continuously. When the bulk density is close to 110kg/m³, the maximum sound absorption performance will be reached, and the thickness of 50mm and the frequency of 125Hz is close to 0.6-0.7. When the bulk density exceeds 120kg/m³, the sound absorption performance decreases, because the material becomes dense, and the sound absorption performance at middle and high frequencies is greatly affected. When the bulk density exceeds 350kg/m³, the sound absorption performance decreases a lot.

The thickness of sound-absorbing glass wool commonly used in architectural acoustics is 2.5cm, 5cm, 10cm, and the bulk density is 24, 32, 48, 64, 75, 96, 115kg/m³. A 5cm thick, 12-48kg/m³ centrifugal glass wool is usually used.

The sound absorption performance of centrifugal glass blanket is closely related to installation conditions. When there is an air layer behind the glass wool board, the sound absorption effect is similar to that of the glass wool board with the same thickness without air layer. In particular, the low and medium frequency sound absorption performance will be greatly improved than that of the material stuck on the hard bottom, and the sound absorption coefficient will increase with the thickness of the air layer, but the effect is not obvious after increasing to a certain value.

Glass wool rolls are laminated with glass wool of different bulk densities to create a form of gradually increasing bulk density for greater sound absorption. For example, a layer of 2.5cm thick 48kg/m³ cotton board and a layer of 2.5cm thick 64kg/m³ cotton board stacked together have better sound absorption effect than a layer of 5cm thick 64kg/m³ cotton board.

Uetersen glass wool feltis a kind of elastic felt-like body made of glass fiber with a diameter of only a few microns, which is processed by using centrifugal technology and fused glass fibrosis and thermosetting resin based environmental protection formula binder. Glass wool felt and according to the use of requirements to choose different moisture-proof veneer online composite.
